A reader recently asked me if there is any way to donate on my website.
I don't have a way to donate on my website, and probably won't add one in the future either.
My material is split into two tiers. You can read most of the material on my website absolutely free. If you don't like it, you will get a 100% refund on your money 😉
And if you buy my paid courses, I will provide full support (answer your questions on the discussion forums) and if you are not satisfied with the course purchase, I will refund your payment. I have done so for 100% of the cases where the students have bought something and it turned out to be different than what they expected.
This arrangement keeps everything simple for me.
Making money via donations is famously known to be a very poor way to make money from your knowledge and expertise. But that's not the only issue.
Donations introduce some complications.
If even a few people donate, now suddenly I am not sure if I can choose to one day shut down my website completely without any concern. I can do so now.
I can take a break when I feel like it.
I can decide to completely change my specialization one fine day.
I can express my opinions quite freely without any concern that I might chase away potential donors. And if you have been following my material for a while, you know that I am a little opinionated on Dialogflow development (although I have come to form them after helping many coaching students, so it is generally data-backed).
And finally, enough people pay for my paid courses that I haven't had to be concerned about this.
But I want to donate!
OK, so you just want to do something for me because you feel you have learnt a lot from this website.
Why would I stop you? 🙂
I have created a product on Gumroad which lets you pay what you want as a way to sponsor an article you already read and benefited from ($5+, otherwise Gumroad's fees make the donation not-worthwhile for you and for me).
- You are sponsoring an article you have already read
- You don't object if I change the article or even delete it in the future
- You are doing it because you felt you already got something from my site, and wouldn't be concerned if I don't add a single article to my site in the future
- I will mention your name below the article you are sponsoring, but no links out
